AboutAs people working in the field of informatics, we would like to present it to the public and demonstrate its powers. We have decided to do it the way we know the best - by showing what informatics can do for people. We have created a family of sites focused on different topics that have the same common denominator - large amount of data spread all over Internet, without organization, hardly accessible. From this public data we have put together comprehensive, indexed and well organized sources of information. Because some of us are chess fans, it was natural for us to consider the chess games as one of the first goals for our effort. We have collected thousands of chess games from the Internet and created an accessible, standard conformant, Java and plugin free web site, that we hope will be useful and interesting for all chess enthusiasts. StatusThe Chess-Ref.org site is still very immature and we hope to extend the available functionality in the near future. However we believe that the site is usable enough in recent state to release it. Sources usedThe gamesAt the bottom of each game-page you can find a link to the original document that was used as a source for our database. All the sources are accessible on public Internet sites and we believe them to be public data. In case you find some data that you believe violate some copyright protection, please let us know so that we can resolve the potential problem. Please feel free to send us any new games that you find interesting for the chess community. The restThe pictures of chess pieces were taken from the SCID project which is distributed under the GPL license. The Chess-Ref.org source codeOn the page of each game, we offer the possibility to download the HTML code needed to embed the game into your pages. You are most welcome to do it. For more info, read this tutorial. Because we strongly believe in free software, we are going to release the full sources of the Chess-Ref.org site, once the code is tested and stable enough. If you are interested in the sources and cannot wait, please let us know and we will do our best to send you the sources as soon as possible. |
